What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup is a beauty technique that enhances and defines your natural features, providing a long-lasting solution for those looking to streamline their beauty routine.
Permanent make-up, also known as cosmetic tattooing or micro-pigmentation, involves the application of colour pigments into the dermal layer of the skin or lips. This technique is performed using specialised tools, either a machine or a hand-held device, and it aims to enhance facial features for long-lasting beauty.
It's important to note that while permanent makeup is designed to last for approximately 12- 18 months, it’s not necessarily permanent in the way traditional tattoos are. The pigment can fade over time. The pigments I utilise fade approximately 10% per year. and periodic touch-ups may be needed to maintain the desired look.
What are the incredible benefits of having permanent makeup?
One of the primary advantages of having your eyeliner, eyebrows, or lip colour cosmetically tattooed is the significant time it saves in your morning preparations. Imagine being able to skip the tedious makeup application and confidently stepping out the door in a fraction of the time. Additionally, permanent makeup provides peace of mind during activities like workouts, swimming, or simply enjoying a sunny day, knowing that your look will remain flawless without the worry of smudging or running makeup.
Moreover, permanent makeup is particularly beneficial for individuals who have experienced hair loss due to over-plucking, medical treatments, or health conditions. Furthermore, it can also be a game-changer for those who might be visually impaired and find it challenging to apply makeup or for anyone physically unable to do it.
I believe that permanent makeup can truly transform your daily life.
Is having Permanent Makeup Painful?
It is a common concern regarding the pain levels associated with permanent makeup procedures and a common question nearly every new client has, as it is natural to wonder about discomfort when considering a treatment like this. During the procedure, a range of needles will be used on the skin, which may cause a small level of discomfort. Many clients describe it as an annoying scratching sensation rather than intense pain. To enhance your comfort, we can apply a numbing cream to the area before starting. Additionally, we will include this in your patch test should you decide to use it.
How safe is Permanent Makeup?
Firstly, the procedure should only be performed by a licensed and experienced professional. This ensures that proper hygiene standards are met and reduces the risk of infection or allergic reactions.
Here at North West Permanente Makeup I am proud to share that I am checked and approved by Lancashire County Council, and my clinic goes above and beyond to adhere to all the necessary regulations set forth by them. My clinic is exclusively dedicated to permanent makeup treatments, ensuring it is a hygienic, safe, and sterile environment.
I want to emphasise that every tool and product that comes into contact with clients is sterile and subsequently disposed of according to a strict waste license. Additionally, I use only the highest-quality ink pigments from Perma Blend. These pigments are hypo-allergenic, fully compliant with FDA and EU regulations, and they are also vegan and cruelty-free. Your safety and satisfaction are my utmost priorities.
How long does my treatment typically take to complete?
For your first treatment, you should allow up to 2 hours for the complete procedure. Following this, the top-up session scheduled for six weeks later should take approximately 1.5 hours.
How long will Permanent Makeup last for?
It's important to note that while permanent makeup is designed to last for approximately 12- 18 months, it’s not necessarily permanent in the way traditional tattoos are. The pigment can fade over time. The pigments I utilise fade approximately 10% per year. and periodic touch-ups may be needed to maintain the desired look.
Pigment fading can vary from client to client depending on several factors, including your age, skin type, skincare routine, and lifestyle choices.
To maintain the freshness of both shape and colour, I recommend scheduling a colour booster every 12 to 18 months. This will help you avoid the need for a full treatment while keeping your makeup looking vibrant and beautiful.
I have/I am considering getting dermal fillers. Can I still have permanent makeup?
Yes, however, from my understanding, the ideal approach is to have the Lip Blush treatment first, allowing a four-week period before proceeding with dermal fillers. Following the fillers, another four-week wait is suggested for a follow-up appointment for the Lip Blush treatment. This is to try and ensure both treatments yield the best results without any complications.
Additionally, if you have already had dermal fillers, I understand it is recommended to wait at least six weeks before undergoing a Lip Blush treatment to allow for the fillers to settle.
Does getting anti-wrinkle injections affect my ability to have permanent makeup?
No, you can certainly have permanent makeup done before receiving your anti-wrinkle injections. However, it’s advisable to wait at least two weeks post-permanent makeup application before scheduling your anti-wrinkle treatment. This waiting period allows the area to heal properly.
After receiving your anti-wrinkle injections, it’s best to allow at least six weeks before undergoing any permanent makeup treatments. This is important because the effects of the injections take time to settle, and if you have your brows tattooed during this period, there is a risk of asymmetry.
What can you expect to happen during the consultation?
At your consultation, we will delve into the specific treatments you are interested in, highlighting the many benefits that permanent makeup can offer. Together, we will discuss the entire process, including an overview of the equipment and pigments that will be utilised. I will present various colour options, ensuring we find the perfect match that complements your features beautifully.
It is crucial that we also discuss your medical history at this stage, as this information will help us check your compatibility with our pigments and identify any contraindications that may affect your suitability for permanent makeup. If necessary, we may need to consult with your doctor before proceeding and may even have to supply me with a doctor’s note. In addition, I will explain the expected healing process and aftercare routines to ensure you feel fully informed and prepared.
Please note that a patch test will be conducted during your consultation. You’ll be required to wait at least 12 hours after this test before we can proceed with your treatment. To secure your appointment, a booking fee of £50 will be needed, which will be deducted from your final bill.
